Seeking fertility care can be nerve-wracking. But at Reproductive Health and Wellness Center (RHWC), we want you to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible during your initial consultation. From the moment you walk through the door, we’ll make every effort to help you feel at home.
Welcome to RHWC
The first thing you can expect upon arrival at RHWC is a warm welcome from our front office staff. We’re happy you’re here, and we truly consider you a part of the RHWC family.
After welcoming you to RHWC, our staff will explain the required paperwork. Be sure to answer everything as thoroughly as possible. The more we know about you and your fertility challenges, the better equipped we are to help you. And feel free to ask questions. We’re here to help!
Meet Dr. Marcus Rosencrantz
After you’ve finished your paperwork, it’s time to meet the doctor. Dr. Rosencrantz believes in taking the time to truly get to know his patients, and you can expect to spend nearly an hour with him during your first appointment.
At this initial consultation, Dr. Rosencrantz will ask a lot of questions about both your medical and fertility history. This is an essential step in the process because it gives him the information he needs to determine any tests he should run, along with potential treatment options. So do your best to be open and honest when answering the questions. It’s the best way to get an accurate picture of what’s going on.
Sometimes it can be difficult to remember all the details of your history, especially if you’re nervous about your appointment. So it might help if you write things down prior to your consultation. That way, you can refer to your notes instead of trying to remember everything in the moment.
Discuss Fertility Testing
The type of testing you or your partner may need is based on both your history and fertility goals. For instance, you may need different testing if your goal is to freeze your eggs for the future than if you have struggled to conceive and are looking to become pregnant as soon as possible. We’ll take the time to explain all testing and answer your questions.
Although the tests you need will vary depending on your medical history and fertility issues, you can get an idea of the types of tests you may receive at RHWC on our Diagnostic Testing and Evaluation page.
Female Fertility Testing
Women may need to have their hormone levels tested, along with general screening for conditions like vitamin D deficiency, diabetes and anemia that could impact your fertility. And we’ll do some blood tests to check your ovarian reserve.
It’s also important to view the physical structures of your reproductive organs. So we may schedule a sonogram to check your uterus and ovaries, and get an even closer look with a sonohysterogram that can help us see any irregular growths. And we may check your fallopian tubes with an X-ray called a hysterosalpingogram.
Male Fertility Testing
Testing for men often begins with a semen analysis. We’ll check the number of sperm in your sample, your sperm motility, and look for abnormal sperm. And we’ll look for things like the pH of your semen, how quickly it liquifies and the total volume of your semen. If we find anything abnormal, we may schedule blood tests to look for hormonal problems or genetic issues. We may also schedule a sonogram to look for any structural abnormalities or dilated veins.
Discussing Fertility Treatment Options
During your consultation, we’ll also talk about potential treatment options. Once again, this will depend on your individual situation. Potential treatments include intrauterine insemination (IUI) or IVF) to help you conceive, or we may recommend ovulation induction and timed intercourse as a first-line treatment.
In some cases, couples need to look at third-party options. So we may discuss things like IVF using donor eggs, IUI with donor sperm, or opting for a gestational carrier. Intended parents may follow many different paths in their fertility journeys. Rest assured, we’ll help find the right path for you.
Focus on Wellness
One of the things that sets RHWC apart from other clinics is our holistic approach to fertility. That’s because we recognize that many factors have the potential to impact fertility, and we focus on your personal wellness, as well as your medical history, to give you the best chance at overcoming your fertility challenges.
As part of that focus, we may recommend things like nutritional recommendations, yoga, acupuncture, participating in spiritual counseling, or taking advantage of fertility therapy. These kinds of services help your overall health and well-being, which also improves your fertility.
At the end of your first consultation, you should have a clear idea of the next steps we’ll take on your fertility journey. It’s important to us that you fully understand the process and are comfortable with your treatment plan, so please feel free to ask us as many questions as you feel necessary,
Now that you understand what happens at a fertility consultation with RHWC, you can feel confident that we will make your appointment as informative and stress-free as possible. And remember, you can always prepare ahead of time for your first fertility consultation by making healthy lifestyle choices. Eating a healthy diet, reducing caffeine and alcohol consumption, quitting smoking, and adopting stress-reduction techniques are all great places to start!
